Oscillating Spaces

This project explores the principles of a hanging model, with the aim to translate it into an architecture school. Inspired by the kinectic characteristics of Alexander Calder’s Mobiles, a Sequence of Spaces is balanced on pivot points, while counterweights keep the spaces in balance. The size of the weights increases towards the bottom of the building, in order to keep the building straight. Every force acting on the spaces changes its rythm, movement and position in space: The Wind Blowing against it or a person walking inside, challenging how conventional studio spaces are inhabited and used. The concept of the pendulum extends from the smallest unit, tables being balanced inside the working spaces, to the largest unit, the Deep Space, which supports the entire building atop of it.
